Artist Statement:
Fragility and femininity have been the overall concept surrounding my work for quite some time. To be feminine is to give and nurture to no end, but to be fragile is to lessen or be considered weak.  I think this is a common thread that all women experience and I choose to show this concept through the forms I create.  Being a ceramic artist for the past few years has truly been inspiring to say the least, but to change the media and mold myself to something new has forced me to become completely uninhibited with paper. Each mold I create is a specially created form that was born from my mind.  In that way, the sculptures are entirely mine, but I choose to share them and the space with the viewer.
Each form has the potential to stand alone, but together the five forms are one and move, breath and create an atmosphere together. Incorporating the use of clay and molds in my new work has opened new possibilities when thinking about the overall concept of meaning in my work.  With my paper sculptures, I want the viewers to place themselves in an environment that is unfamiliar and familiar in the same, almost like a dream.  Be welcomed, but want to step out and be apart of they’re own world.  The work conveys a sense of time, ownership and an overall feeling of wanted acceptance in a world of individualistic ideas.  The stark white of the forms helps the viewer project their imagination on each individual sculpture as well as building an appreciation of the untouched, fragile nature of the forms.
